English is compulsory until Year 11. We aim to foster confidence so that all pupils actively enjoy reading and writing, as well as listening and learning from each others’ opinions. We encourage creative thinking, respect and constructive disagreement. We have an excellent new library with a superb librarian. It is equipped with research and reading books, computer and internet access and a comfortable Learning Resource Centre. Students are introduced to Media Studies from Year 7, learning how meaning is created through newspaper, advertising and moving images. From Year 10, it becomes a discrete subject, and in Sixth Form we offer both Media and Film Studies. Cultural Studies are explored in all years, promoting awareness of different belief systems and cultures. We plan to start Religious Studies GCSE from September 2008.
